April 6:  Tomato Blight Prevention and Lasagna Gardening

Getting ready for gardening? Would you like some ideas on dealing with tomato blight? On creating a deep-mulch garden to help avoid weeding? Then you are invited to learn about these gardening techniques on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the LaValle Public Library.
Most Tomato Blight comes from the soil. In a deep mulch garden, the existing vegetation is covered with cardboard to smother it and then 18 to 24 inches of mulch ...is placed on top of the cardboard. Plants and seeds are planted directly into this deep mulch. Tomatoes never get blight from the soil and no weeds germinate in the mulch. Healthy 7 foot tomato plants are common, up to frost. There is no digging, no tilling, no weeding and you have one of the healthiest and most productive gardens around. Roger will also touch on edible landscape designs, taking the food garden to places you never imagined--the front lawn.
Roger Reynolds is the owner of Infiltrating Landscapes Consulting. He works to educate and demonstrate sustainable concepts and projects
