Announcements, March 11, 2010 Regular Meeting:
• Get Ready, Get Set, Garden is March 20 and we are quite low on donations for the silent auction. We would really appreciate it if every member would donate an item, and, if able, ask their favorite merchant for a donation, too. (to avoid irritating merchants with multiple requests, Phyllis has maintained a list of those already asked, checking with her first wouldn't be a bad idea.) Additional raffle tickets are available, too.
• Earth Day will be celebrated at UW-Baraboo on April 25th. Mary Symak will organize a table display and is seeking volunteers to provide a discussion panel.
• The Faire on the Square plant sale is May 13 and Carrie is seeking volunteers in two regards: as your garden begins to awaken and you discover "volunteers" in unexpected locations or overgrown perennials, please dig 'em up, pot 'em up and donate them to the sale, and think about serving a two (or more) hour shift selling the plants and interacting with visitors and other MGs.
• Phyllis needs 3 or 4 volunteers to work with Huber work release inmates at the Community Garden in Prairie du Sac on Monday mornings.
• Lynn has volunteered to chair the Circus World gardens project and would like to plant a garden featuring Happy the Clown's face in flowers. She is looking for 10-15 volunteers. Circus World opens for the season on May 22, and everything needs to be in place by then.
• Elephant dung is available at Circus World and it makes great fertilizer. Contact Circus World for specifics.
• There will be a planning meeting to discuss the Merrimac Community Charter School Community Garden on March 16 from 8-9 PM at the school.
• The gardens at Kid's Ranch require renovating, and the week of May 3-8 has been schedule for clean-up, planning, and relocation of overgrown perennials. May 17-22 will be devoted to soil prep, tilling and some transplanting. Planting will be done the first week in June. Contact Arlene Kissack to volunteer.

Our scrapbooker/archivist retired and Mary S. will be maintaining the scrapbook until a permanent replacement can be found.  If you are interested in maintaining the scrapbook (the job qualifies for volunteer hours), contact Mary.

Landscape Techniques will host customer appreciation workshops on April 3 (starting onions and potatoes and a presentation by Olds Seeds on turf building) and April 17 (transplanting seed crops, raised beds and yoga for the garden)

McFarlane’s final customer appreciation day is March 13 and MGs will be leading workshops—schedule was in newsletter available on our website

As we approach the busy gardening season, the website will be update with help wanted requests and project updates, when they are provided to me.  Updates usually occur over the weekends.  The website address is:  www.mamakiwi.com/scmga.htm.  You can email requests to me at mamakiwi@mwt.net.  I can access this mail remotely- when I am out of the office.
